In the winter of 1967, Barry purchased the ex-Skip Eade midget (#3) off former Western Springs Promoter Harry Thompson and worked on installing an Offenhauser motor. His intention was to race it as #7 at Western Springs in the 1967-68 season. However he was offered the drive in the Mackay Offy at the Royale and returned to Sydney.
(From the Gordon McIsaac collection)

Barry never raced the car. It was sold to Brian Tracey who installed a Coventry Climax motor and raced it as #2.

Back in Auckland in spring, 1967, Barry received a call from Don Mackay asking him to drive one of his Offenhausers in Sydney. It was a coveted drive and he gratefully accepted. Here he proudly poses with the crew on the infield at the Royale in the ex-Warriner Mackay Offy.

Barry didn't change his aggressive driving style when he first began driving for Don Mackay. Here Sid Middlemass fights to pull the Wells Fiat (#54) away from the wall after Barry pushed him out of the way. Barry was fined $20 and warned! Middlemass later protested the fact that Barry had been so lightly treated!

Barry racing in the bunch at the Sydney Royale. Barry settled down in the Mackay Offy to become one of the main drawcards in Sydney. Even so, there were several disqualifications and suspensions for rough driving early in the season!
